this page says "the [verizon] supervisors have been telling people to use 'smtp.covad.net' for outbound mail services." it works. does that mean covad is just a pseudonym for verizon, or is verizon actually recommending customers use a competitor?

verizon DSL doesn't allow customers to send email (via SMTP) from a non-verizon address. when i asked the technical support guy why this is, he answered "i guess we don't want you using other email addresses."

i've been holiday-ing for the past week or so. i'm now blogging via DSL. it's a fast and constant connection. i'll try to get a webcam up later today. i still have some more holiday-ing to do, but i'm starting to get back to work now.
